I voted

I voted today. My 10-month old daughter Romy and I braved the crowds and went to the last day of early voting. Only took about an hour and everyone was nice and Romy was a perfect companion.

Subway: Eat Fresh?

Does anyone else out there think that this new $5 Sub is still too expensive and shouldn't be marketed as value?  Oh great, Subway's shitty stale sandwiches just went from being too expensive to expensive.  What I'm getting at is that Subway sucks.  Their marketing campaign sucks.  And a $5 footlong sucks.

A Misfortune Cookie

No one likes you.

Your mother is a whore.

Everyone thinks your ideas are terrible.

Today will be the day you die.

Patience and grace is something you lack.

Lucky numbers: 6 6 6.

You smell.

Take a hike.

This cookie contains rat poison.

Your present plans are not going to work no matter how hard you try.

Your likeability will get you nowhere.

God will not give you anything you want.

God hates you.

This day will end badly.  Enjoy the good time while you still can.

You will be showered with shit.

Your endurance and persistence will not be rewarded.

Your dreams will never come true.  They are just dreams.

You have a heart of gold but no one likes you.

The job you have now is the job you will have when you die.

Everything around you is crumbling.

Everyone knows.

No one is listening.  They are only waiting to talk.

You are lonely, sad, and lonely.

Everything good in your life is sure to fade.

You will never succeed.  Quit trying.

All hope is lost.

It's pretty slick that I've got a baby

It’s pretty slick that I’ve got a baby

I feed it the ba ba

and hand it the nu nu

Rub lotion on its belly and

make it go ga ga

Thirsty? How ‘bout a drink of wa wa

Dress it in egg-shaped clothes

and say things like goo goo

Koala

I would take you –

            tiny fierce creature –

shrink you down to a smaller size

and keep you in my pocket,

                                    if I could.

But you wouldn’t have that,

                                    would you?

And in the cadence of rebellion,

            I see you smiling, dancing

                        needing me less and less.

            I’ll come down to you

if you let us teach each other:

                                              I’m just a child myself,

                                       seeing you see everything

                                  for the first time.

But this,

       this is new.

I only know the beginning of heartbreak.

Some words on loss by Thomas Heise

What does one turn to when the "father" is gone,
when only his empty space remains? Language.
More language.  Cover the body with words.
